User group definitions
* Manager:
o The manager is the SchoolMation database administrator and is
usually a technology instructor or coordinator in the school. Though
they have full access to setting up how SchoolMation works, it is
usually based on decisions made by school administration taking into
account school policy and philosophy. The manager appropriately
adjusts SchoolMation (technically) to fit an individual school's
requirements. It is suggested that the school elect two managers so
that there is always a back-up person in case one manager is not
available at any given time.
* Administrator:
o The SchoolMation administrator has access to special administrator
reports and full access to the majority of administrative tasks
within SchoolMation. An administrator can modify any data that is
entered by a teacher. The administrator also sets defaults for school
report cards and establishes the master schedule.
o Note: The SchoolMation Administrator group may contain members who
are not traditionally considered to be "administrators" in the
school. These people may be academic advisors, counselors,
secretaries, office staff, or anyone else that requires
administrative access to the system. Often technology literate
teachers are made administrators in SchoolMation so that they may
assist/train other teachers.
* Teacher:
o The SchoolMation teacher group usually consists of all of the
instructors in a school. Teachers have access to add/modify/delete a
large amount of information like: grades, attendance, report cards,
course information, lessons, etc.
o Note: Teachers can add/modify/delete information that they
personally create, but cannot make changes to information added by
another teacher. Only administrators and managers have that right.
That means, for example, that if "Teacher A" marks a student as
absent, 'Teacher B" cannot delete that absent or add a reason for
that absent. Only "Teacher A" or a SchoolMation administrator can
modify the absence. Since listing reasons for an absence is not
usually the job of a traditional school administrator, that is why
you probably will have SchoolMation administrators that are not
necessarily school administrators.
* Student/Parent:
o Students only have access to personal information about themselves
based on what the school decides is appropriate. They can view their
own grades, but not the grades of other students, etc.
o Parents should be given the exact username and password that is
assigned to their child, so that they have access to the same
information as their son/daughter.
